No_body Festival 2010

2nd Festival of Dance, Movement & Performance Arts, NO- BODY 2010

A total of fifteen groups and approximately 65 artists from the field of dance, music, theatre, film, architecture and visual arts, participate at this ambitious artistic venture that proudly celebrates its second birthday today. 'No-Body' features original and distinct works, the result of artistic dialogue and creative collaborations. This display of the diversity and individuality of the contemporary artistic landscape of Cyprus is one of the Festival’s major objectives. The human body remains the axis of our creative work.

Among the participants are experienced as well as new artists who are making here their debut. Our goal as organizers is to encourage and deepen the creative process and break new ground in artistic expression. I wish all of the artists every success. They deserve it. I also hope that very soon we shall have a permanent home where interactive art forms will reach new levels of excellence through experimentation, innovation and improvement.

An important recent event that marks the international relations of Cyprus with the European Dance scene is the participation of Dance Gate Lefkosia Cyprus in the EU Culture funded project Modul-Dance 2010-2014, where in collaboration with 18 other European Centres of Dance partners of the European Dance House Network they join hands to support creativity in Dance. With Spain as the leading country (Mercat de les Flors/ Barcelona) the European project Modul–Dance is a project developed to provide artists with support and to foster their professional independence from the inception of a show through to its production, presentation and dissemination. The aim is to provide optimum conditions as well as monitoring and guidance throughout the creative process.

As part of our participation within Modul-Dance, and in collaboration with its other partners of modul-dance, the University or Nicosia, and the support of the Nicosia Municipality, Dance Gate Lefkosia Cyprus is organizing the International Conference: Dance / Body at the Crossroads of Cultures in June 16-20, 2011.

We are confident that the Dance Movement & Performance Arts Festival – No_Body – contributes to the broadening of Dance and multidisciplinary work and provides the impetus for creative exchanges & international cooperation with other Dance/Performing Arts centers throughout Europe. Such exchanges allow the creative spirit and aspirations of our local artists to flourish not only on the island but also abroad.

Special Thanks to:

Mrs Elsi Christofia, First Lady of the Republic of Cyprus, who placed the Festival under her auspices recognising its significant contribution to the artistic community of the island. The Mayor of Nicosia, Mrs Eleni Mavrou, and the Nicosia Municipal Council for their unreserved support in the organisation of the Festival and for offering two superb venues: the Pallas Theatre and the Melina Merkouri Hall. The Cultural Services of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the main sponsor of the Festival. All the groups and artists who, with their presence and generous participation, mark the creative character of this Festival and recognise its innovative significance And finally a big thank to you, our audience, that with your presence here at the Festival 'No_Body' are showing your support for this artistic and cultural event to carry on.
