Dance Gate Lefkosia - Cyprus, is one of the most important agents that define the field of contemporary dance in Cyprus. It is recognized as an active member and an affiliate partner of organizations and international dance networks like the  European Dancehouse Network (www.ednetwork.eu) and the European Program ΜODUL DANCE 2010-2014, (www.moduldance.com).

Following a series of activities that have contributed to the promotion of contemporary dance in Cyprus and the placing of our country on the international map, Dance Gate LefkosiaCyprus proudly presents a collaboration with the University Of Nicosia within the framework of the European Program ΜODUL DANCE 2010-2014. This will provide the occasion for an exceptional meeting of more than 50 artists and theoreticians from around the world; the conference Dance/Body at the crossroads of Cultures will celebrate intercultural meetings in different parts of the world which share dance and body as their common loci.

Starting on June 16th and for three days every-day life, artistic creation and academic research come together in an interdisciplinary dialogue. Internationally acclaimed theorists and practitioners exchange their latest questions on dance and the thinking body. Contemporary dance is discussed as a powerful way of understanding the state of the world today as well as our role in it. The theme, location, timing, collaborating institutions and the discursive modes of the conference demonstrate Cyprus’ valuable contribution as a credible partner of international networks.

Dance/Body at the Crossroads of Cultures is hosted in Nicosia, a site of contrasts and a hub of constant transformation and exchanges, in close proximity to the Middle East often a zone of crisis and conflict but also of reconciliation and fertile exchange of cultures. Through presentations of academic papers, performances and informal exchanges during walks and meals, the conference brings to the fore key issues of identity, division and transformation and connects philosophical and theoretical discourse with the language of practice through inter-arts approaches. It also seeks to provide an opportunity to bridge the gap between creative people who have remained apart for several decades, and for international and local artists to suggest ways of creating shared experiences in performance.

Plenary lectures will be addressed by Rustom Bharucha (India/Germany) and Guy Cools (Belgium/Canada), while more artists and theorists from Cyprus, Greece, the United Kigdom, Israel and elsewhere, also take part. Rustom Bharucha proposes “Reconfiguring the Politics of Interculturality in Body/Dance” and Guy Cools suggests that "We are all carriers: on the notions of Identity, Territory, Nomadism and Home in Contemporary Dance.
